EIGHTFOLD PATH

The fourth noble truth suggests that in order to overcome the narcissistic mind, one that is always dissatisfied, we have to follow a simple way of life. This simple way of life is the philosophy of Buddhism. The Buddha didn't teach about divine or spiritual attainments. Rather, he preached to the people to follow their hearts and introspect within themselves. The Eightfold Path is a guide to living a life full of joy, kindness, and wisdom. It is mainly divided in three parts: Moral conduct, Meditation, and Wisdom. Almost all philosophers in the past emphasized the importance of virtue and how it helps us reduce our ego. Moral conduct is a way to live a disciplined life where we build good habits and overcome mental defilements. Next is meditation, which is the major practice of the path. The Buddha stated that no amount of knowledge from reading or reciting is equal to the knowledge we receive when we look within ourselves, into our own minds. Therefore, meditation is the foundation of the practice and it leads to a better understanding of ourselves and the world. Finally, the last part of the path is wisdom, which is born from meditation. The wisdom comes from discussion amongst fellow meditators as well as readings from various philosophies. The ultimate wisdom, however, only comes when we let go of ourselves and watch each moment in life with full awareness. When we learn how to practice moral conduct, meditation and wisdom, we become more satisfied and content with our lives.
